SBotLL is the name of the longest-running campaign I’m playing in! We’ve been playing since 2016 with varying frequency. This post serves as a quick reference for the premise and player characters in the campaign.

The premise

The player characters were split into two groups: an evil/neutral-aligned party in the Underdark, and a good/neutral-aligned party on the surface. Each characters has their own goals. While the Underdark party (or the “evil squad”) searched for a way to reach the surface, the surface party (or the “good squad”) contended with their own villains and problems.

This campaign started at level 1 and has reached into high tiers of play, with additional powers granted to the player characters on top of their usual class abilities.

Eventually, the connections between the two parties lead to them meeting up on the surface. That session happened in 2021! Now they must work together to prepare for an oncoming calamity only they can face– or at least, that’s the plan…

The characters

The good squad

The good squad all met at the Starmere Festival in the elven capital at the beginning of the year. Early on, they helped revive Vindus, the god of the wind, and were granted special power. They have also earned the favor of the Raven Queen (also known as “the Host”) like the evil squad.

The good squad player characters are as follows:

  • Allora, tiefling ranger. She is the daughter of Tymora, the goddess of luck. Allora co-leads a faction of tieflings named the Awoken Flame. Her animal companion is a bear named Frikka. She’s also Finnith and Eliera’s cousin on her father’s side.
  • Finnith Fëanor, elf bard/rune scribe. He recently found out that the Fëanors are former nobles with a role in the elves’ secret history. He is Eliera’s half-brother.
  • Nala Turnuroth, dragonborn rogue. She is the crown princess of her clan and, thus, heir to the royalty’s pact to the demon lord Graz’zt. One day she must return home and save her family from captivity, claiming the throne as hers.

Our NPC traveling companions sometimes include:

  • Amuulqalo Norixius, dragonborn warlock. He is Nala’s bodyguard and has a pact with the Void. Nala’s romantic interest.
  • Antonio Aloro, elf warlock. He was formerly a member of the evil Coven of Eternal Light before he met Finnith and the good squad. Now he serves the Raven Queen. Finnith’s romantic interest.
  • Rupert Tiasthmus, human rogue. An adoptive member of the Capello family, Rupert specializes in negotations. Allora’s romantic interest.
  • Verge, tiefling monk. She co-leads the Awoken Flame with Allora and another tiefling named Entropy. She helped the good squad destroy the Coven.

The evil squad

The evil squad met up and became the crew of Captain Drakmarsis, a vampire oathbreaker. After he died and most of the crew was lost, they forged ahead to meet the Sea Barons. Each of them has past or present affiliations with powerful entities. Like the good squad, they have also earned the favor of the Raven Queen.

The evil squad player characters are as follows:

  • Baala’rug, tiefling monk. He is the son of Baal, the god of murder, and has recently denounced him, potentially making a powerful enemy. He vanquished the naval commander known as “the Wolf,” which was key in helping the party reach the surface.
  • Cipher Capello, changeling rogue/mystic. He is an assassin for the Capello family who found himself in the Underdark. He can communicate with the Void through mysterious means. He currently operates under the identity of a human named Albion.
  • Eliera Dalar, elf ranger/warlock. She formerly worked for Beshaba, the goddess of misfortune. Now she is pacted to Quthil, a wolf archfey associated with the new moon. Her beast companion is Artemis, a dire wolf. She is Finnith’s half-sister.

Their NPC traveling companions sometimes include:

  • Daear Iriador, elf bard. An informant who has had multiple brushes with death and resurrection. He’s the brother of Ivellios Selevarun. Baala’rug’s romantic interest.
  • Ivellios Selevarun, elf rogue. He once worked for Thoren Amakiir and the Sea Barons. He is Daear Iriador’s brother. One of Eliera’s romantic interests.
  • Naivara, firbolg fighter. She was the first person the evil squad met when they reached the surface. She was exiled from her clan due to her unorthodox approach to rune magic. One of Eliera’s romantic interests.
