The smaller group continues on their journey in the human lands. Cipher uncovers part of a mystery. Eliera escalates a tense situation. And they draw closer to Cipher’s home in the city of Carigan.

These Campaign Diary posts are where I discuss the campaign I play in and our most recent session!

Recap

In the last session for this group, they began their journey from near Alame’a in the elven lands to Carigan, a city central to the human lands. The journey will take several weeks, so Cipher, Eliera, and Naivara buy a horse and cart. One night, a large mechanical spider appears and teleports away with a captured Eliera. She finds herself in the Underdark. In the scenes that followed, she discovered that Ivellios had come back with the clone spell—though there is also a clone Ivellios (Ivellios 2) that works with Neroth now. They teleport back to the surface and rejoin Cipher and Naivara. Ivellios has a lot of explaining to do now.

In this session…

After another week of travelling, the group arrives in a town called Ishanette. As they make arrangements to stay the night, Cipher notices that the townsfolk and hunters are talking around… something. The group splits up, and he does some investigating.

Cipher and Eliera discover that the area that all the people in Ishanette go out of their way not to mention is the northeast forest… where Naivara went. They immediately leave town to go find her. A few hours away from town, they discover that the forest is being overtaken by mushrooms—and see Naivara collapsed with mushrooms growing over her.

Eliera is able to heal Naivara enough so that she can stand. They start travelling back to town. But, Naivara’s mind still seems affected, as she perceives mushrooms where there aren’t any.

The group gets back to Ishanette. The guard at the gate questions them and discovers that they had gone to the affected part of the forest. He can’t let them in. Eliera threatens him, and he calls for reinforcements.

As other villagers arrive to back up the guard, Eliera sets fire to their gate, and the situation escalates. They won’t listen to reason, insisting that the group are “mushroom demons” and don’t want them in the town. Cipher can’t reason with them, and the group is forced to fall back. He changes his form so he can sneak into the town and retrieve their horse before meeting back up with the group.
