The smaller group begins their journey towards Carigan. An ambush catches them by surprise, and Eliera encounters a familiar face or two.

These Campaign Diary posts are where I discuss the campaign I play in and our most recent session!

Recap

The group has split, so this session has Eliera and Cipher as our player characters. Naivara has also joined them. Cipher is planning on returning to his home now that he is back on the surface.

In this session…

Cipher receives a summons to the Capello manor in preparation for a ball. The missive also has coded instructions for the completion of his mission. He tells Eliera and Naivara about the event as they travel from the elven lands towards the human lands.

One night, the group is surprised by mechanical spiders—one large one, and several tiny swarms. Eliera succumbs to the large spider’s paralysis beam and is teleported away.

The spider first takes her to a dark cave filled with huge spider webs. The webs seem very old, and within them are huge ships and various other things. She fights off the paralysis temporarily, but it’s not enough to fight off the spider, and it takes her again. It then takes her to somewhere in the Underdark—right to an old enemy of hers, the dwarf named Alberich Lotgher.

Things are looking grim. As Eliera prepares to fight her way out, gunshots hit Alberich and his lackeys. Ivellios Selevarun rushes in and helps Eliera escape. Eliera can’t believe he’s really here, and she doesn’t trust that it’s actually Ivellios—but he seems to remember most things that Ivellios would remember.

She cooperates with him enough to get into a boat with him and escape the island. Ivellios explains that before he joined the party, Neroth used the clone spell to make a copy of him. When Daear killed him, his soul went to the clone. He’s back under Neroth’s control because of Neroth’s rune. But, he’s going to do his best to get Eliera back to the surface using the Weaver’s Circle teleportation network. Two things aren’t adding up, though. He doesn’t remember losing his cloak of invisibility and has no explanation for why he doesn’t have it. And he doesn’t remember his message to Eliera about not trusting him if she ever saw him again.

Ivellios leads Eliera to the capital and the central Weaver’s Circle. This will allow him to teleport her up to the surface. But before he does, another Ivellios appears. The second Ivellios shoots the first Ivellios in the hand and face before activating the Weaver’s Circle and taking Eliera with him.

Meanwhile, Cipher and Naivara have just fought off the tiny mechanical spiders.

Eliera and the second Ivellios suddenly appear.

Eliera interrogates the second Ivellios, who reveals the following:

Ivellios had found out that Neroth made a clone of him. He called in a favor with Ielinia, Neroth’s right hand woman, to have her make a second clone of him. The plan was, then, for him to awaken as the second clone upon death and then go dispatch the first clone. This is why he warned Eliera not to trust him if she saw him again after his death. The first clone’s memories were modified to not remember what happened to the invisibility cloak or his warning to Eliera. As the second clone, Ivellios has the invisibility cloak and had been tailing the first clone. The first clone was responsible for Alberich sending the retriever (robot spider) after Eliera in the first place, and he was going to transport Eliera to Limbo to be captured by Neroth. Ivellios had meant to deal with the first clone and disappear afterwards, but fate had other plans.

Eliera takes Ivellios’ cloak of invisibility from him. He apologizes for all the trouble. After Cipher and Naivara catch up on what has happened, the group goes back to sleep.
