Nala signs a contract. The group stumbles on a crime scene.

In these posts, I talk about the campaign I play in and our most recent session!

Recap

Last session, the group came into contact with Deep Wing, a crime organization led by a gem dragonborn named Sivanti. Sivanti deals in information—which the group could really use.

In this session…

Nala negotiates with Sivanti about what information the group will give in exchange for their requests. First, they want Sivanti to use Deep Wing and her contacts to spread misinformation about the party’s plans to throw off Nala’s uncle.

In exchange, Nala tells Sivanti about her plans to support gem dragonborn representation in the dragonborn council (plus her sponsoring Sora as one of the gem dragonborn representatives). Sivanti also secures Nala’s agreement to sponsor her as another gem dragonborn representative.

Next, Nala wants to know anything Sivanti knows about the whereabouts of Nala’s mentor, Erdan. Erdan is an elf who taught Nala how to be an assassin. He hasn’t been seen around the city recently.

She offers information about the theft of royal keys to power. Finnith supplements this information with the description of the culprit and what they know about the Six, who the party believes is behind this.

Additionally, Sivanti wants to know whether Nala can confirm a certain rumor she’s heard: that someone is trying to get certain powerful contracts annulled…

Of course, she’s referring to the contracts with the demon lords that Nala wants to get rid of for all dragonborn. Nala confirms that someone is pursuing that, but she doesn’t volunteer the information that that person is her (though Sivanti may be able to guess).

Sivanti tells the group that the council has hired Erdan to investigate a string of serial murders. Each victim has had their eyes removed, and their bodies are displayed publicly along with a symbol of an eye. She arranges for Nala to meet with a contact in the Knights of Sand who can tell her more about this investigation.

With that, their dealings are complete. Nala signs a contract for her end of the deal, and the group leaves.

Their return to the Busy Bee tavern is delayed by a Knights of Sand blockade. Daear sneaks in to see that they’re blocking off a crime scene—the same serial killer Sivanti told them about has struck again right outside the tavern.

While the group waits for the Knights to leave, they discuss the possibility that this could relate to Baala’rug’s father, Baal, the god of murder. The murders and eye motifs certainly imply a connection, but they don’t have enough information to go on.

Later, it is agreed that Nala, Sora, and an invisible Daear will go to meet the contact at midnight.

At the meeting, Nala learns that Erdan was last heard of two weeks ago in the green dragonborn lands. The contact tells them that Erdan believes the killings have specifically targeted popular or noble people to help them be noticed. The council has been able to cover up the killings so far, but the people are getting restless, and they don’t know the identity of the killer at all.

The party regroups, and Sora mentions that someone has been watching them who isn’t a member of the Knights of Sand. That person reported something to a faerie dragon before it flew off, and she noticed their aura at the Deep Wing hideout, too, though they didn’t seem to be an agent.

The plan is for Nala to use Finnith’s dream spell to contact Miijra, the leader of the green dragonborn, to see if she’s okay and if she knows anything about the investigation. Then, they may wait a day for Sivanti’s information to get out. Then, they may leave for Ekuros, Nala’s home city!
