Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons brings two subclasses from Unearthed Arcana to official D&D. Let’s talk about the updates made to these player options!

Monk: Way of the Ascendant Dragon

The 3rd level Draconic Disciple feature is the same except for the subfeature called Tongue of Dragons. This feature allows you to learn Draconic (as the UA does) or another language (which is new).

At the same level, the Breath of the Dragon feature requires 2 ki points instead of 1 to regain your uses of the feature before taking a long rest.

The 6th level feature, Wings Unfurled, no longer allows you to spend a ki point to regain your expended uses of the feature before a long rest.

The 11th level Aspect of the Wyrm feature’s aura is 10 feet out instead of 30 feet. The resistance effect is the same. Frightful Presence replaces the other subfeature and is a frighten effect. It now only requires 3 ki points to use it a second time instead of 4.

The 17th level Ascendant Aspect feature also had changes. The Blindsight subfeature is reduced to 10 feet instead of 30 feet. The Breath of the Dragon subfeature was changed to increase the damage and range of the breath attack for 1 ki point. The damage from Explosive Fury was reduced to 3d10 instead of 4d10.

Ranger: Drakewarden

At 3rd level, the Draconic Gift feature now allows you to choose a language other than Draconic if preferred.

At the same level, the Drake Companion feature now has no time limit.

The 7th level feature, Bond of Fang and Scale, grants the drake wings and a flying speed but no other special movement speeds beyond that. You also get the ability to use it as a mount (but it can’t fly if you’re using it as a mount).

For the 11th level feature, Drake’s Breath, the damage was increased. It is 8d6 instead of 6d6, and it increases to 10d6 at 15th level. The Large Drake subfeature allows the drake to fly while you are riding it. You can now only use the Reflexive Resistance subfeature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
