This week, Wizards of the Coast announced a new rules expansion book titled Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. This announcement came with a lot of teasers among the tweets, so let’s sort through some of this information!

This book seems to be in the same vein as Xanathar’s Guide for Everything, with options for both players and Dungeon Masters.

We’ll get more information at the upcoming D&D Celebration event this September. But, for now, we already have some tidbits confirmed that I’m pretty curious about!

Class/subclass options

So far, we know that the College of Creation bard, Genie patron warlock, and Armorer artificer subclasses are appearing in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. On that note, we’ll see a reprint of the artificer class in this book. It seems that a few of the other subclasses from previous setting-specific books will be reprinted into Tasha’s, but we’ll have plenty of new stuff to sort through as well, likely from the recent Unearthed Arcana offerings. Each class will get at least one new subclass.

We’re also getting “new class features,” which makes me think we’ll see an official version of the Class Feature Variant options—I am very excited about this!

Spells and magic items

We’ll be seeing an official iteration of the Unearthed Arcana magic tattoos. I’m excited to use these more and see what changed in their official version! Also confirmed are the new summoning spells and new class-specific magic items.

Customization

Rules for the group patron (like in the recent Eberron book) and sidekicks are appearing in Tasha’s.

New feats are also confirmed. It wasn’t too long ago that we got an Unearthed Arcana for feats—hopefully some of those will appear in an official capacity.

This book will contain “rules for modifying a character’s racial traits,” which I’m definitely curious about. It seems that WotC has noticed conversations surrounding bioessentialism, racism, and what to do about the in-game “race” system, to which Arcanist Press created Ancestry & Culture as an answer, among other creators.

DM options

It seems like we’ll also see some discussion of a session zero and peacefully resolving conflict with monsters. Plus, the mention of “supernatural environments” and “natural hazards” makes me think the exploration pillar is going to get a bit more attention in this upcoming expansion.

Puzzles are also called out on the product page—so perhaps we’ll see a similar revisiting to puzzles as Xanathar’s did for traps.

Overall, this seems like a hefty expansion! I’m excited to learn more about its contents and to dig through them myself in November. What are you most excited or curious about in Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything?
