For those who backed the Kickstarter, the digital PDF for Herbalist’s Primer is available! This was a great surprise in the middle of a stressful pre-holiday week. The physical rewards are set to fulfill in early 2022. After reading through the PDF, I’m even more excited about receiving the physical copy.

Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos is here! This book provides a level 1 – 10 campaign centered around playing students of Strixhaven, an academy of magic from Magic: The Gathering. To that end, it also contains new monster stat blocks, worldbuilding information, roleplay guidance, and new player options! I’m very excited about Strixhaven as a D&D setting.
So, let’s talk about the Owlin player option and how it has changed from its original UA appearance. We’ll also touch on the new backgrounds, feats, and spells!
Continue readingEarlier this year, we got an Unearthed Arcana article called Folk of the Feywild. Some of those playtest options are now officially available in the Feywild-themed adventure, The Wild Beyond the Witchlight. Let’s talk about the updates to these new option!
Continue readingChoosing equipment is usually one of the last steps we take in character creation. When you’re developing your character’s backstory, consider how they obtained the equipment they start their adventuring career with.
In the equipment section, the Player’s Handbook points out that:
“You decide how your character came by this starting equipment. It might have been an inheritance, or goods that the character purchased during his or her upbringing. You might have been equipped with a weapon, armor, and a backpack as part of military service. You might even have stolen your gear. A weapon could be a family heirloom, passed down from generation to generation until your character finally took up the mantle and followed in an ancestor’s adventurous footsteps.”
Everyone wants to have fun at the table! As players, our actions have as much of an effect on the game as the Dungeon Master’s. A little goes a long way, so I’ve put together a few things I try to keep in mind during the game.
Continue readingD&D is a game made of words! And it is a big game with many words.
Every feature of your character has specific wording that tells you what situations to use it, how to use it, and what its effects are. As your character grows, they’ll pick up even more features.
And you know what?
It’s impossible to remember it all.
When we, as players, start rolling up characters, we all approach our character’s personality a bit differently. Sometimes you choose class based on what sort of person your new character seems like. Sometimes details of personality start to form when you choose their background. And, more often than I’d expect, our characters turn out differently than we’d imagined once we actually begin play.
It’s important to explain why your character is an adventurer within their backstory. Adventuring is dangerous, and it’s not an especially secure way to make a living! So why is this character you’re making going down that route?
Hey there! Hope this post finds everyone safe and well.
I recently released a DM’s Guild product of my own called Downtime Scenes, so I’m going to talk about how you can use this in your game!
Continue readingHey, folks! Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything is here, and with it come a plethora of new subclasses to try. These subclasses appeared in previous Unearthed Arcana articles. In these posts, I’ll compare the Unearthed Arcana versions of these mechanics to the official versions present in Tasha’s.
There’s a lot to cover, so this will be a multi-part series of posts! This post discusses the artificer and barbarian subclasses.
Continue readingIt’s hard to wait for the next D&D session! As a Dungeon Master, I’m happy to have some time to prep the next part of the adventure. But, as a player, it’s much more difficult to be patient. I want to do more with my character, see what happens next, but the constant rate that time progresses keeps me from fast-forwarding to next month.
So, what is there to do?
