Changes to the Artificer Class in Eberron: Rising from the Last War

It’s 2020! I hope everyone had a great New Year’s and other holiday celebrations. Took a break last week so that we could start off the new year with a bang and take a look at what Eberron: Rising from the Last War has changed about the Artificer class!

In early 2019, Wizards of the Coast released an Unearthed Arcana article revisiting the Artificer, a playtest subclass that appeared in Unearthed Arcana from 2017. Here’s where you can find my post comparing the two.

Then, a little later, WotC released another UA article that tweaked the class, added some Xanathar’s Guide to Everything spells to their spell list, and introduced new subclasses. Here’s where you can find my post about that update.

Now, we have Eberron: Rising from the Last War, which introduces the official Artificer. You’ll notice that the D&D Beyond version has updated to reflect these changes, but the UA articles retain their original information. Now, let’s get into the changes!

Dragonmarks in Eberron: Rising from the Last War

Eberron: Rising from the Last War changed several options that appeared in Wayfinder’s Guide to Eberron. We’ve talked about the changes to the changeling, shifter, and warforged; now let’s talk about the changes to the dragonmark options.

These updates have rolled out to Wayfinder’s Guide to Eberron, so you’ll notice that Wayfinder’s rules text now matches Rising from the Last War’s text. You can still access the older versions of the dragonmarks and the Eberron races in the Unearthed Arcana articles: Dragonmarks and Eberron Races.

Changes to Race Options in Eberron: Rising from the Last War

Eberron: Rising from the Last War is here! This is a setting book for the world of Eberron, which gives a different spin to the world of Dungeons & Dragons. In this world, players can choose unique race options besides the ones presented in the Player’s Handbook—the changeling, kalashtar, shifter, and warforged.

Wayfinder’s Guide to Eberron gave us the latest version of these options before Rising from the Last War, and there have definitely been some changes! In this post, we’ll talk about these updates. (This post is mainly focused on the changeling, kalashtar, shifter, and warforged options, so we won’t address any changes made to the dragonmark character options just yet.)

Session Prep: October CoS Session

October is the perfect month for Curse of Strahd! The Friday before Halloween, we were able to hop on and do a CoS session, right as the weather is cooling down and the leaves are changing.

In this series, I’m writing about how I prep my monthly CoS sessions and the results of that preparation. I’ve been able to learn a lot about how I need to prep generally and for this specific group.
