The group struggles to de-escalate the conflict between Eliera and Baala’rug. Once the dust settles, it’s time to start picking up the pieces.
These Campaign Diary posts are where I talk about the campaign I play in and our most recent session!
About SBotLL
SBotLL is the second campaign I’ve ever played in. It’s been going on for five years now, with two groups of player characters who met each other last year (real life time).
Recap
Last session, Ivellios revealed that he killed Daear’s father years ago. Daear killed Ivellios, and then Eliera killed Daear. The deaths of those NPCs lead to a stand off between Eliera and Baala’rug. Both characters have great power within them, though it is dangerous to call on…
In this session…
As Eliera and Baala’rug face off, Naivara and Finnith get in between them and attempt to de-escalate the situation. They just learned that the group needs to work together to prevent the oncoming calamity. And besides that, Baala’rug and Eliera are—or were—friends.
Eliera and Baala’rug hesitate to actually attack each other. But while Naivara and Finnith are talking to Eliera, Baala’rug struggles to keep it that way. This isn’t because of his own will—rather, he must fight the bloodlust from the influence of his father (Baal, the god of murder). He succeeds and avoids hurting anyone, but he does lose consciousness.
After that, the fight is over before it truly began. Characters work to move the dead somewhere safe in the Host’s manor, as well as put Baala’rug somewhere he can recover. Nala goes to pick up Daear’s body. In that moment, his spirit appears. This is the Shadowfell, the realm of the elven dead, after all.
Meanwhile, Eliera goes off on her own with Ivellios’ belongings. She finds a letter addressed to her and a letter addressed to Daear. After reading Ivellios’ letter to her, she sits up on the roof with her emotions.
As Baala’rug is unconscious, he dreams that he is in his father’s throne room. He defies Baal and is stripped of his blessings.
After that, he wakes up. He speaks with the other characters and Daear(‘s spirit). Cipher and Finnith go to look for Eliera.
While the group’s cohesion may have been damaged, no more deaths occurred, and there is time to pick up the pieces. Thankfully our next session is in two weeks rather than a month!
