Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons is here! There’s a lot of cool stuff here for Dungeon Masters and players, including draconic character options. We saw these character options in a previous Unearthed Arcana article.

Now, let’s talk about the official version of these new dragonborn player character options!

All in all, the core content for these options are the same. There are a few tweaks here and there, likely for balance and clarity purposes.

For example, each of these three options have their breath weapon damage tweaked. It now is a base 1d10 damage instead of 2d8.

Additionally, the 3rd level feature is now available slightly later, at 5th level.

The Chromatic Warding feature of the chromatic dragonborn now gives you immunity to your Chromatic Ancestry damage type for 1 minute instead of 10.

The Psionic Mind feature of the gem dragonborn got some wording tweaks. It now says you can “send telepathic messages to a creature” instead of saying you can speak telepathically but the recipient can’t respond. The meaning of this feature seems unchanged.

We don’t see a new player character option to play as a kobold here, though it was in the UA. It seems like for now the Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes kobold remains the standard for playing a kobold.

I liked the new UA dragonborn, so it’s nice to see them here with minimal changes! I think these are great for people who like dragonborn but want a change from the Player’s Handbook version.
