Last week, Wizards of the Coast announced a new upcoming D&D book: Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons. It looks like this book will have fun options for players and juicy lore for Dungeon Masters! Let’s look at what we know about this upcoming book.
Fizban, the narrator of this book in the way of Volo, Xanathar, Tasha, and other characters in their respective books, is an archmage from the Dragonlance setting. He is also the avatar of the dragon god Paladine. I wonder if this is hinting at a possible Dragonlance book coming up sometime soon? After all, after Volo’s Guide to Monsters, we got Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, which features Volo at the beginning of the adventure.
A number of elements introduced in recent Unearthed Arcana are coming to Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons, including:
- Gem dragons, neutral-aligned dragons with psionic powers with a gemstone aesthetic (amethyst, crystal, topaz, sapphire, and emerald)
- Draconic ancestry options for dragonborn player characters (gem dragonborn ancestry)
- Monk and ranger subclasses: Way of the Ascendant Dragon for monks and Drakewarden for rangers
- Feats and spells
We’ll see how these options have changed from their original UA versions once the book has released!
Additionally, the new book will also provide new monster stat blocks and lore for dragons:
- Dragon lair maps
- New dragons and dragon-themed monsters (aspects of dragon gods, dragon minions, and different variants of existing dragons)
- Lore on the “first world” and Bahamut and Tiamat’s influence on it
I’m looking forward to taking a look at the new information about dragons and using it in my campaigns!
