If you’ve ever used the Dungeon Master’s Guild to make a purchase, you probably made a DM’s Guild or DriveThruRPG account to do so. That account keeps track of the purchases you’ve made so that you can download them again later.
It also reminds you of which products you’ve bought and haven’t rated or reviewed! The DM’s Guild allows you to leave a one to five star rating and write a review of the product you purchased. Anyone who visits the product page can also leave a comment.
If you purchased something on the DM’s Guild and liked it, I really recommend leaving some feedback for the creator! This can be as simple as leaving a rating. This affects the Average Rating that appears on the product page. The Average Rating shows both the star rating average and the total number of ratings. When you leave a rating, you’re contributing to that overall average.
Comments and reviews appear on the product page as well. Anyone can leave a comment, regardless of whether you’ve purchased the product. Comments are great for asking questions—though I do recommend scanning previous comments to make sure your question hasn’t already been answered! Comments are also great for the situation where, for example, your Dungeon Master used a product in your game that you, as a player, don’t have, but you want to talk about your experience with it.
Leaving reviews is amazing! You can leave a review of something once you’ve purchased it. Your review will also display the star rating you left for the product. This is a wonderful way to tell the author how you feel about their product.
Reviews, comments, and ratings are all important for a product to receive because that’s feedback! It makes the product page seem less empty when a potential buyer views it, and it helps them see that other real humans bought the product and had thoughts about it.
Your review doesn’t have to be long, and you don’t have to be an expert in tabletop games or game balance to write a good review. If you liked a product and want to review it, but aren’t sure how to start, just pick out one or two things you really liked and talk about those. Of course, it’s best to be courteous to the creator while giving your thoughts. Something as simple as, “This adventure was really fun to run/play! Our group really liked the gelatinous cube encounter” or “I’m excited to try out this subclass!” goes a long way!
If you’ve never written a review for a DM’s Guild product before, I hope this post was helpful! I’m going to start leaving more feedback on the products I buy, and I hope you do, too. Have a good week!
